Community Disability Action Week Awards
In recognition to the achievements of those living with a disability, Community Disability Action Week Awards will be presented to five regional winners.
Cairns Regional Council will begin to call for nominations for the Awards next week that publicly recognise the efforts of local community members and organisations.
Chair of the Access and Equity Advisory Group Cr Margaret Cochrane said the five categories included four individual awards and one award in a community support.
“People do amazing things day by day and most times don’t realise how extraordinary they are,” Cr Cochrane said.
“If you know someone who shines through their efforts for people with a disability or who has overcome adversity while living with a disability, nominate them for one of these honours.”
The five award categories are: Community Spirit Award, Young Community Spirit Award, Community Support Award, Caregivers Award and Individual Achievement Award.
Access and Equity Project Officer, Ian Chill, said that when nominating it was important to indicate the category intended for the nominee.
“This is Council’s second year of awarding those who achieve in dealing with disability”
“Categories including the Caregiver's Award and Community Spirit Award do not have an age limit placed on them, however there are some criteria required for individuals to be eligible,” Mr Chill said.
Nominations for the second annual awards will be accepted from the 27 July – 31 August 2009 and will be presented on Friday 18 September. Please download the form to nominate a community member.
