Sod turned for pooch park

3 November 2009

In a first for the region, owners and their pooches will have a park in Earlville created exclusively for dog exercise.

Division 4 Councillor Kirsten Lesina said an enclosed space specially dedicated to dog exercise and training has been one of the most common requests since her election.

“A place where dog owners can train and socialise with their canine friends in fully fence security is something that is needed in the region and I have been working on bringing it about since the beginning of the year,” Cr Lesina said.

“Infrastructure such as footpaths and road repairs are part of Council’s budget, but special projects like this park aren’t part of the budget, so the cost will come from my divisional works fund.”

“It will be exciting to put the shovel into the ground to begin works,” she said.

The exercise area to be established at Henley’s Hill Park will include a 1.2m chain mesh fence, dog agility and bench seating equipment constructed of recycled plastic, water taps, double gated security, instructional signage and a doggy bag bin.

“The exercise area will be landscaped with half dozen mature shade giving trees which will make it a great place for dogs and people even in the hottest months.”
