Local Laws & Policies
Local Laws govern most of the roles and responsibilities of Cairns Regional Council, and cover activities such as parking, swimming pools, advertising signage, animal control, outdoor dining, overgrown allotments, pests and weeds, and nuisances such as noise and dust.
The existing Local Laws of both the former Cairns City and Douglas Shire Councils will remain in use until they can be merged together.
Council must now conduct a review of all Local Laws. During the review period, it is more appropriate to use the Queensland Department of Local Government and Planning's (DLGP) online Local Laws Database as the reference source for all Local Laws and Subordinate Local Laws.
Policies are instruments which give direction to processes as ratified by Council. Further policies will be added to this section on ratification by Council. All Policies are available as Adobe Acrobat Files.
