Dog registration audit now underway
From Monday 24 August 2009, Council officers will be inspecting all properties across the Cairns Regional Council area as part of a regular dog audit.
Property visits will be carried out between 8am and 4pm weekdays to confirm that all dogs in residence are registered. Council’s officers are authorised under the Local Government Act to enter properties for this approved inspection program.
Registration is not only a legal requirement but it helps ensure a dog can be promptly returned to its owner if it strays or is lost.
Owners of unregistered dogs will be given a 7 – day grace period to ensure they are registered. Failure to comply will result in a $200 fine for each unregistered dog on the property.
Dog registration costs between $17 and $105. See details here.
